"What is a major professional skill that nobody teaches you in school, but dictates 90% of your actual career success?"

Think about the thousands of hours we spend in classrooms, lecture halls, or professional certification programs. We learn financial modeling, legal frameworks, coding languages, project management methodologies, and industry theory. We get handed all the technical blueprints we could possibly need.

And then you step into the actual workforce, and you quickly realize that technical competence is basically just the entry fee. The game itself is played on an entirely different field.

Success suddenly hinges on things like learning how to manage up without looking like a brown-noser, knowing precisely when to stay completely quiet in a high-stakes meeting, reading the invisible political currents of a room, or writing an email that can actually command the attention of a brutally busy executive who gets 300 messages a day. Nobody hands you a syllabus for any of that.

For those of you who have climbed a bit or built a strong career: what is the unspoken, unwritten skill that you had to learn the hard way, and how did it change your trajectory once you finally figured it out?
