Is Nigeria Adhering to Rule of law?

Post by Egbunefu Faith »

Rule of Law.
The rule of law is the supremacy of the law of the land that entails no individual is above or below the law.
Nigeria doesn't have rule of law.
It is not applicable here. Majority of the citizens brines their way out of situations with our corrupt leadership and police force.

Principles of the Rule of Law
1. Supremacy of the law: The law is above every individual, including the president and other government officials.
2. Equality before the law: Every person should receive equal treatment under the law.
3. Protection of fundamental human rights: Citizens' basic rights and freedoms must be respected.
4. Independent judiciary: Courts should be able to make decisions without improper interference.
5. Fair hearing: Every person accused of an offence should have an opportunity to defend themselves before an impartial court.

Reasons Nigeria Is Not Fully Adhering to the Rule of Law
1. Corruption.
2. Inequality before the law.
3. Lack of Judicial Independence
4. Human right violations
5. Electoral Irregularities
6. Insecurity

They're a lot of points raised about the rule of law and I would like to focus more on the equality issue, well from a man's point of view, the word equality seizes to exist the moment a woman lays an accusation against you, it's your word versus theirs, in most cases men are accused and convicted before ever getting fair trial, and if found not guilty maybe after years, the woman just walks away, it's a sys that automatically protects the woman and gives them power, but when power is severely biased and unchecked it can become an opportunity for unbridled rage and a form of punishment for the opposite gender, in social media terms a woman who goes through post partrum disorder , meanwhile the men's mental health is ignored, I know it seems I'm touched or coming from a place of anger, apologies if offended, but this is purely the truth, counter me if I'm wrong .
