Dawn breaks over the globe, and somewhere a herd of deer is drifting toward the water. Your wolf lifts its head. The wind is carrying their scent, the light is soft, and the day is full of possibility.
This is hunting in the Wolf Globe. It runs on a real sun, real weather and real patience, and it rewards the members who pay attention. You never have to fight another wolf to thrive. You only have to read the world.
Meet the Herds
Rabbits dart through the grass, small and quick, with just 20 health. They make a gentle first lesson. Deer (80 health) are the classic early hunt. Boar (120 health) are stubborn and hit back for 8. Bison (400) and bull bison (600) are the giants of the plains, and no wolf takes them alone. They need two or more packmates biting within the hour. They hit for 12 and 25, so bring friends.
The Art of the Approach
Animals live by the clock. At dawn and dusk they drift to the ponds to drink, and at midday and through the night they rest in thickets. Catch a resting animal and it takes 25% extra damage. Land the first bite on a foraging one and you get the same bonus.
Then there's the wind. Scent carries twice as far downwind and half as far upwind, so the best hunters circle around and come in from downwind. Rain washes scent away, fog and darkness blur your sight, and snow makes trails stretch longer. The weather you see outside is the weather your wolf lives in.
Your Senses Are Your Superpower
Vision reaches 2 km per rank. Hearing begins at 10 km and doubles with each rank. Smell begins at 300 km and triples, and Tracking reads trails up to a full day old. The sharper your senses, the more of the world opens up to you, and you learn an animal's state at 50% sight and its speed and your odds at 75%.
Bites: Spend Them Wisely
You have 30 hunting bites a day, plus 5 for each rank of Speed, and one returns every 10 minutes. Each bite costs 1 Energy, and extras cost 5. After a bite there's a short pause (60 seconds, minus 5 per Hearing rank) before you can bite the same animal again. So before you commit to a boar or a bison, count your bites and plan the hunt.
When the Chase Begins
A bitten animal runs. If it's faster than your wolf, every minute of the chase drains Energy, so choose your battles. Chases end in a fight of up to 180 seconds, and the herd takes notice, because animals within 3 km are alerted for 10 minutes. Wounded animals bleed for 2 hours and may fall without another bite. Your wolf can bleed too, and a few herbs will stop it. If an animal downs you, it costs 10 Energy and 2 hours.
After the Hunt
A kill leaves a carcass for 2 hours with three helpings. Wolves take two at a time, and the scavengers take one. Vultures arrive after about 10 minutes and foxes after 25, and a fox may raid an unguarded den after 30 minutes. Don't wander off from your spoils.
Eating is the sweetest part of the day. Meat heals 20 and pays 2 Energy. Fish heals 10 and pays 1. Blood and herbs heal 5 each and pay half an Energy, and herbs also stop bleeding. But food spoils, losing 1 health an hour and 1 Energy a day, so eat while it's fresh. Eating pays up to 1,000 Energy a day.
Catch the Frenzy
String your hunts together and the Frenzy meter climbs (+8 per prey bite). At 100 you get 20 minutes of extra speed, damage and bites, and it's the best feeling in the game.
A Gentle Way to Begin
Suggestions, Start with rabbits and deer. Hunt at dawn or dusk and approach downwind. Keep herbs in your pack, and save the giants for when you have a pack. And never bite another wolf. It starts 24 hours of Bloodlust, and the world gets a lot less peaceful.
