WHY SOME BUSINESSES FAIL EVEN WHEN THE OWNER IS HARDWORKING

People often say:
“If you work hard, your business will succeed.”
Hard work is important, but hard work by itself isn’t enough.
A business can fail because the owner works extremely hard on something customers don’t actually want.
Imagine someone spends ₦2 million opening a business without researching:
* Who their customers are
* What customers want
* What competitors charge
* How much demand exists
* How much the business costs to operate
* Where the customers are located
* How the business will attract customers
They may work 12 hours every day and still lose money.
This is because effort doesn’t automatically create value.
A successful business needs to solve a problem or satisfy a demand.
Before starting a business, ask:
What problem am I solving?
Who has this problem?
Are they willing to pay for a solution?
Who are my competitors?
What makes my business different?
What are my operating costs?
How will customers find me?
How much profit do I realistically make per sale?
These questions can prevent expensive mistakes.
Another common problem is poor financial management.
A business owner may make ₦500,000 in sales and think:
“I made ₦500,000.”
But sales aren’t the same as profit.
If it cost ₦350,000 to provide the products or services and another ₦100,000 went to expenses, the actual profit may only be ₦50,000.
