My Full Strategy on Vision, Hearing & Smell (With Weather Math)
I was stuck like most beginners until I stopped hunting blind. Here is my full strategy that saved me
THE BIG SECRET NEW PLAYERS MISS:
The game weather is REAL. It's pulled from Norway's weather service (MET Norway). Fog, rain, wind direction is not random. Check it before you hunt or you waste energy.
STRATEGY 1: VISION - Your Daytime Sniper But Situational
Math: 2km per rank. Rank 1 = 2km, Rank 3 = 6km, Rank 5 = 10km.
When to use: Clear weather, midday (11am - 2pm). Prey rests in thickets and doesn't move, so you can spot them.
When NOT to use: Fog cuts vision by 80%. I tried in fog and saw nothing at 1km. Total waste.
Weakness: Vision CANNOT see scent trails (yellow) or blood trails (red) or hidden meat. You will run past a carcass.
My Lv 3 tactic: I use Vision only when I return to Den (15km + 10km per packmate territory). Inside Den, your senses are stronger. I scan from high ground, not while running.
STRATEGY 2: HEARING - The Best Starter for Lv 0-5 Hunters
Math: 10km base and DOUBLES per rank. Rank 1 = 10km, Rank 2 = 20km, Rank 3 = 40km. Best ROI early.
When to use: Dawn (5am-7am) and Dusk (6pm-8pm). All deer, bison, moose go to ponds to drink. You can hear splashing and footsteps from kilometers away.
Why it's OP: It works through fog AND rain. When my vision was dead in fog and smell was cut in rain, hearing found me a pond with 3 deer.
Pro tip: If you hear but don't see, don't run to it. Walk. Running costs 10 energy to go home and leaves strong scent trail for other wolves to track you and steal your kill.
STRATEGY 3: SMELL - The End Game God Tier
Math: 300km base and TRIPLES per rank. Rank 1 = 300km, Rank 2 = 900km, Rank 3 = 2700km. Insane.
Inside Den: Your smell is 150% stronger inside Den territory. So if you are in a pack, stay near Den to track.
When NOT to use: Rain cuts smell by 50% and makes trails disappear twice as fast. I tracked a deer in light rain and dots faded in minutes.
-Wind mechanic: This is critical. If wind blows East, YOUR scent blows East. So prey to the West will smell YOU before you smell them. Always check wind arrow and hunt UPWIND (wind in your face).
-Meat spoilage: Meat loses 1 health per hour and 1 energy value per day. Old scent trails = spoiled meat = waste of energy. Only follow FRESH red (blood) and yellow (scent) trails. If you see ravens circling, that's a fresh carcass or a player raven message (costs 1 energy to send).
MY DAILY ROUTINE NOW:
1. Before hunt: Check weather and wind. If rain -> Equip Hearing. If fog -> Equip Smell + Hearing. If clear -> Vision + Smell.
2. During hunt: Follow yellow = scent, red = blood. Don't chase if trail is old.
3. After kill: Eat only to 90-100 healthy Don't overeat, save energy. My upkeep is 1/hour until it runs out.
4. Energy saving: Never use "Run Home" (10 energy) for scouting. Walk. Save 10 energy per trip. That's $0.10 saved.
My Next Goal: I'm saving to level Smell to Rank 3 first, then Hearing to Rank 3, because long-term Smell finds more. Bite and Tracking still 0 - I will level them after I get stable income.
For new hunters in Nigeria time, hunt Norway time early morning is best - less competition
What sense did you level first? Did rain ruin your hunt too? Let's share to save energy.
